Subject: xdvik-18b and auto font generation

I managed to build web2c by using the kpathsea subdir from the older
dvipsk-5.55a. I've installed TeX, dvipsk (5.58b) and xdvik (18b). It all seems
to work except for font gerneration with xdvi. Missing fonts are generated when
I use dvips, but not when I use xdvi (even when specifying +maketexpk option).

I didn't specify any additional options when I built xdvi. Are there some
env vars or options I need when I invoke xdvi to make it generate the
missing fonts ? I have not set ANY env vars at all as tex,latex,mf and dvips
seem to work fine without them.
